Wynken is a unisex children’s clothing brand based out of London, England.

Wynken’s goal is to produce contemporary and creative clothing for modern kids with strong design and quality at its core that will appeal to both the young minds of the wearer and those of their parents.

What is Wynken?

Founder, Elbe Lealman, studied fashion at Northumbria University located in Newcastle upon Tyne. After University, she was the Head of Design at the men’s and women’s clothing label Folk, which is known for its understated, effortless, comfy scandi-chic style. With prior experience in the fashion industry, Lealman naturally progressed into the world of kids’ fashion after becoming a mother. She created Wynken in 2014.

Inspiration for collections is found in a variety of ways. The Spring Summer 2022 collection was inspired by the uplifting lyrics of the song “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers, a 1978 illustrated magazine for children called “The Great Outdoors” and a great desire to be outside enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. The “Good Day” collection is about having the best day ever.  

With the help of artist Alec Doherty, hand drawn floral illustrations and hand-painted waves and sunshine helped the brand imagine sitting on their picnic blankets listening to the sound of birds. The collection is also a nod to the freedom of traveling to outdoor spaces due to continued lockdowns in London related to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Spring Summer collection features bold, but slightly muted hues with big block letters. Some of their tees have “Good Day” written on them in a large and funky print.

Is Wynken sustainable? 

Limited information can be found on their website regarding sustainability. However, some of their products are made from organic materials, like these Wide Leg Pants in an organic terry toweling fabric. However, many of their items do not specify if they are organic or have any certification, like GOTS-certified organic for example. 

The brand also does not disclose where the products are manufactured or other sustainability information. 

What makes Wynken unique? 

Parents love how Wynken appeals to kids, but also looks a little retro and like something a cool mom (or dad) would have rocked back in the day. The patterns and colors have a heavy dose of nostalgia from the 80s and 90s, while somehow managing to be fresh and new, which is a hard feat to pull off.

 

Does Wynken run true to size? 

I was unable to find any reviews regarding sizing for Wynken, however in my experience the brand runs true to size to a little bit big.  There is a Wynken size chart is available on the website and below here:
