The Simple Folk is a minimalist line of nature-inspired, ethical, organic, and high-comfort play clothes. Garments are easy to wear, easy to wash, and easy on the senses so they can support your children for years to come.
With sustainability at the forefront of the brand’s mission and values, The Simple Folk garments evoke a sense of calm and serenity for the wearer, while using the highest quality organic materials on the market. Every choice the brand makes is with our planet and children in mind to lead the way toward a more conscious future that values quality over quantity.
What is The Simple Folk?
The Simple Folk is a high-end, small batch clothing line that features versatile, timeless, luxuriously soft, and practical garments for babies, children, and women. They are made with non-toxic inks and dyes and are created in an environmentally and socially conscious way.
All their fabrics are made from natural and organic fibers, which gives parents peace of mind that every fabric, button, and dye is clean and toxin-free. The Simple Folk always chooses the softest and most sustainable fabric they can find. They even have a set of undyed newborn pajamas, gowns, and bonnets for the purest quality of organic clothing available for a newborn’s delicate skin.
When was The Simple Folk founded?
The Simple Folk was by two friends, Abigail Brown and Jamie Morea, who share a passion for gentle parenting, minimalism, free play, natural and organic materials, and eco-friendly living. They spent hours texting each other back and forth during late-night nursing sessions before the brand launched, knowing there had to be a way to make their dreams come to fruition. They launched in 2018 and have since expanded their line and sizing due to its success.
Beyond clothing, their content regularly emphasizes the value of minimalism, facts about consumerism, pollution, landfills, and other environmental issues, and how we (as the consumer) can make a difference. The brand regularly supports social and environmental causes related to the health and safety of families and to children’s education. They have been featured in Milk, Meer, Forbes, and Vogue.
Where is The Simple Folk based?
The Simple Folk has chosen not to have a “central office” and instead, is split between the two home countries of the co-founders. Abigail is based in England and Jamie is based in Portugal where the garments are made by artisans in an eco-friendly factory.
They have team members throughout the US, EU, and the UK and partner with artisans all around the world for their line of accessories and limited edition items. They value their team members and artisans, which is why they allow a lot of their team members to work remotely and in their home countries.

Is The Simple Folk organic?
Yes! The Simple Folk is GOTS-certified and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified.
GOTS certification is the gold standard for the processing of organic fibers. It covers the entire textile chain; from the harvesting of raw materials, and environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing, to labeling. GOTS certification is recognized and accepted in all major world markets, so no matter where the organic clothing and accessories were grown and manufactured, all products meet the same stringent standards.
When a brand notes that their clothing is made with “organic fibers” or “organic”, that doesn’t necessarily mean all materials within the garment are organic. With The Simple Folk’s GOTS certification, they require that products contain a minimum of 95% natural organic fibers, whereas “organic” requires only 70% organic fibers.
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a premium certification that ensures a completed product is free of harmful chemicals and safe for human use. This includes everything in the garment, like dyes, lining, thread, buttons, snaps, and other accessories.
Beyond the certifications, The Simple Folk encourages sustainability by encouraging garments to be passed down, items mended when possible, and upcycled when done. All garments are produced in an eco-friendly factory in Portugal which runs on green energy from solar-generated power and recycles its well water.
What sizes does The Simple Folk carry?
The Simple Folk carries babies, children, and women’s sizing.
- Baby NB-18/24m
- Children 2y-10y
- Women US 0-US 18
How is The Simple Folk sizing? Is it true to size?
The Simple Folk garments run true to size with room to breathe and move with your child as they play. Sizing depends on the style of the garment and on its material composition. Knitted items, like cardigans and jumpers, are made with 100% organic cotton to provide practical comfort and durability. Pieces made with linen, waffle, muslin, and corduroy have less stretch and are designed to have a more relaxed fit. Each product listing has a specific size guide to help you.
A comprehensive size guide is also available with examples of how to measure for accurate sizing. Please note that measurements refer to your child’s body rather than the garments. For garment measurements, please see the size chart link within your selected product listing.

Are The Simple Folk toys sustainable?
Yes! The Simple Folk offers a toy and gift line with goods crafted from non-toxic and natural plant dyes. They are perfect for little ones to have open-ended, free, grounded, and joyous play. The animals are hand knitted by Kenana Knitters, which is a charity dedicated to helping local communities and families in Kenya. The animals are made with 100% handspun wool and are one of a kind.
