Piccolina is a lifestyle brand dedicated to empowering today’s young children to become tomorrow’s leaders and problem solvers. You will not find the stereotypical gender-themed clothes like pink princesses for girls and blue dinosaurs for boys. Instead, Piccolina celebrates aspiring paleontologists, chemists, engineers, astronauts, and other STEAM interests with unique design themes without gender-specific styles and colors.
What is Piccolina?
Piccolina is a STEM empowerment clothing brand for children.
Research shows girls as young as age 5 may develop self-limiting beliefs and begin to think they are not as smart and capable as boys. Many kids’ clothing and products perpetuate these gender stereotypes by underrepresenting women in leadership positions or fields related to science, technology, engineering, and finance.
Piccolina strives to empower children and smash these stereotypes so our current and future children do not grow up with pre-conformed gender biases. Piccolina is committed to social justice, equality and inclusion. Their products are designed to encourage discovery in your little ones by allowing them to live to their fullest potential.
Piccolina’s “Trailblazer Collection” is their iconic clothing line of influential women throughout history such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rosa Parks, and Frida Kahlo. They also feature lesser-known influential women in history, such as Maria Tallchief who was the first Native American prima ballerina of the NYC Ballet.
The graphics are drawn by artists, many of whom are women. A portion of the shirts’ proceeds benefit nonprofit organizations that support girls’ education and empowerment, such as the Malala Fund and Step Up. They also offer free coloring pages to help your little one celebrate bold and pioneering women, from astronauts and activists to pilots and painters. You can download your free coloring pages on their website.
What is the Piccolina meaning?

Who owns Piccolina Clothing?
Piccolina was co-founded by Heide Iravani and Emily Clifford in 2019 out of a desire to break gender stereotypes in kids’ clothing and products.
CEO and mother of three, Heide Iravani had prior experience in tech, finance, and big law where she experienced gender stereotypes and was frustrated that her children would experience the same.
She told Forbes, “As a woman who has combated many obstacles to establish myself in male-dominated industries, and also as a person with strong convictions about social justice and equality, I noticed that most designs for kids contain gender stereotyped designs signaling that being feminine or female is mutually exclusive with being brave, curious, and scientifically-minded”.
COO and mother of two, Emily Clifford brings over 13 years of merchandising and buying experience from her work at Donna Karan. Before founding Piccolina, they both spent a lot of time in male-dominated industries and set out to build a brand that parents can feel good about buying for their little ones. Together the two have had wild success with Piccolina, even amidst the unknowns of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In March of 2021, Piccolina won Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies award in the fashion and style category, along with big brands like Gucci and Hermes.
