What is Pact Organic?
Pact is a sustainable, ethical, organic clothing brand.
Established in 2009 when the idea of organic cotton wasn’t as common as it is today, Pact is a pioneer of sustainability and transparency regarding where your clothing comes from and why it matters.
Their roots run deep in organic farming where they use sustainable crops, organic farms, and GOTS-certified manufacturing to ensure their fibers are good for the Earth from seed to tee. They also partner with Fair Trade Certified factories whenever possible to always ensure safe working conditions, empower employees, uplift local communities, and promote a sustainable environment.
Who owns Pact Organic?
Jason Kibbey and Jeff Denby founded Pact in 2009 when they set out to develop an apparel company with a line of premium organic cotton basics. Jason Kibbey was the CEO of Pact from 2008 to 2012 and Jeff Denby was the Chief Creativity Officer from 2008 to 2015.
In 2011, Pact was acquired by Revelry Brands, a Boulder, Colorado based investment firm. The founder of Revelry, Brendan Synnott is listed as Pact’s current CEO (and Co-Founder as well).
Is Pact good quality?
When talking about Pact quality and why they choose to use organic cotton, Pact founder Brendan Synnott stated, “I started Pact with a lofty goal: to create the comfiest clothes in the world without destroying the earth, or harming people. I believe that what we wear matters. So, I set out to do things better.”
Reviews of Pact are favorable, however, some reviews do complain about the material being on the thin side and warn customers to follow laundering instructions. However, other reviewers have noted wearing and laundering their items dozens of times and having them still look great. An overwhelming majority of customer reviews said shipping was fast and customer service is superb.
Is Pact fast fashion?
No. Fast fashion is an approach to the design, creation, and marketing of clothing that emphasizes making fashion trends quickly and cheaply available to consumers. Pact’s mission and values do not align with the term fast fashion and they are actively trying to counteract fast fashion by recycling, using organic cotton, Fair Trade Certified factories, and more.
Is Pact really ethical?
Pact is committed to offering sustainable and ethical fashion to their consumers. Some of their products are Fair Trade Certified, but some are not. Pact explains that Fair Trade Certification is not applicable in certain countries that already have union and wage protection in place for workers. No matter where Pact items are made, they want to assure their customers that all their clothing is manufactured in safe facilities and always sweat-shop-free and child-labor-free.
Fair Trade Certified is a benefit to the world. It protects land and waterways in over 45 countries for a world-changing way of doing business. They have a Theory of Change model, where Pact is committed to doing their part. All items that are Fair Trade Certified are clearly and proudly listed on their website in the product descriptions.
Is Pact GOTS certified?
All products are made with organic cotton and many items are GOTS certified, which stands for the Global Organic Textile Standard. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.
For items that need some stretch, they add a small amount of elastane in with the organic cotton, which therefore does not make it eligible for GOTS certification. Elastane is a variant of Spandex, which is a synthetic fiber known for its elasticity and comfort. All fabric content is displayed on every item to ensure transparency.
How is Pact clothing sustainable?
Pact clothing is committed to fair-trade factories and utilizing organic cotton. They also have a “Give Back Box”, where they will donate your gently used clothing (non-Pact items included as well). The program has two goals: to donate gently used clothing to nonprofits that need them and to reduce packaging footprint by reusing old boxes.
All Pact products are carbon neutral, where they have partnered with an eco-tech company that allows shoppers to offset the carbon footprint of their shipments. This technology automatically calculates the shipment’s distance, the carbon footprint created, and the cost to offset that carbon locally.
Pact uses thoughtful packaging which includes paper envelopes made from 100% post-consumer recycled paperboard and cardboard boxes made with 98% post-consumer recycled materials. The plastic used to keep your clothing safe is also made with biodegradable plastic, called the “Magic Bag”.
Does Pact use formaldehyde?
No. Pact only uses the purest organic cotton, which is free from Formaldehyde and other chemicals. Conventional cotton (not organic) is the world’s dirtiest crop and is sprayed with Formaldehyde, Monsanto Roundup Herbicide, and other chemicals. By choosing organic cotton, you are ensuring many chemicals, which can be harmful to humans, are not used on your garments.
Is Pact made in the USA? Where is Pact manufactured?
No. They are manufactured in India where their organic cotton is harvested. 74% of all organic cotton comes from India, so they are committed to strengthening the global economy and making an impact on lives all over the world.
